Adopting a child in India may
become easier
WSN Network
Many Punjabis
across the world find it difficult to adopt a child from back home
because laws are so complicated. India, infamous for making adoption
laws, norms and procedures extremely difficult to understand and
follow and thus frustrating people's intentions to adopt a homeless
child, is now taking the first baby steps to rectify the situation
somewhat.
Despite having
the worst figures worldwide of children in need of a home and caring
family, India did not do much to make a move. Now, its Ministry of
Women and Child development (WCD) has plans to launch a website
where one can register and select a child for adoption, and simplify
some procedures.
The website will
be launched next month and will have a database of children and
online registration. At present, those wanting to adopt have to
register with the local Recognised Indian Placement Agencies (RIPA),
shishu grihas or an adoption-coordinating agency. The process takes
a minimum of seven months to a year for domestic adoption.
