Tributes to
Surjeet had stuff between the lines
WSN Network
BUNDALA: Some of the tributes seemed too dubious for any dedicated
Marxist. General secretary of the CPI (M) Prakash Karat said all
that had recently happened in Parliament would never have come to
pass had the legendry leader been active at the time. What this
meant was not lost on lovers of ideology as Karat addressed the
thousands of people who had turned up for the “shradhanjali samaroh”
organised for Surjeet in his village.
"He was a genius crisis manager,” Karat said. Punjab Chief Minister
Parkash Singh Badal also paid tributes to Surjeet, calling him a
true custodian of “Punjabiyat”. “I never saw him angry," he said. He
did not care enunciate even a few steps that Surjeet took in life if
he was indeed a "true custodian" of Punjabiyat.
Union Minister of State for Finance Pawan Bansal almost spilled the
beans by saying Surjeet was the greatest adviser for Sonia Gandhi as
far as Punjab was concerned. So far, this was only an allegation.
State BJP president Rajinder Bhandari said his party had ideological
differences with the CPI (M), but on matters like corruption, scams
and the fight against Emergency, the BJP had stood by Surjeet. “He
was a man of principles,” he added. The BJP had recently
characterised the latest stances of CPM as devoid of all principles.
Among others who paid tributes were Lok Sabha Deputy Speaker
Charanjit Singh Atwal, former MP Jagmeet Singh Brar, Lok Bhalai
Party president Balwant Singh Ramoowalia, Bahujan Samaj Morcha
President Satnam Singh Kainth, CPI state secretary Joginder Dayal,
former MP Prem Singh Chandumajra and Desh Bhagat Yadgar Trust
chairman Gandharav Sain. CPI (M) leader Brinda Karat also attended
the meeting, though she did not speak.
