Barnala villagers resort to dharna against Dera Sirsa
WSN Network

Barnala: Residents of Deewana village near here blocked traffic at a local bottleneck point for more than four hours on Monday to demand that followers of Dera Sirsa, currently involved in a clash with the Akal Takht, be booked under IPC sections 295-A. The 14 dera followers were booked by Bhadaur police on August 14 after some Sikhs had got injured in a clash between Sikhs and dera men at Deewana village. Thirteen followers were arrested after the incident but got bail as Sikh bodies alleged that the police failed to present the challan.

Protesters said the local Bhadaur police was demanding money to book those arrested under section 295-A. Local administration officials tried to convince the protesters to lift the blockade. Bhai Daljit Singh Bittu of Shiromani Khalsa Dal accused the government of allowing revival of dera activities to reap electoral benefits.
