Federal pollution
control board to work for Darbar Sahib complex project
WSN Network
AMRITSAR: In a bid
to control and stem the impact of industrial pollution on the Darbar
Sahib complex buildings and environment, India's Central Pollution
Control Board (CPCB) will prepare a database of pollutants besides
identifying the sources of air pollution around the sanctum
sanctorum.
The Punjab
government would bear the expenses of all the work carried out by
the CPCB.
The Central and
state pollution control boards swung into action after preliminary
reports that the centuries-old marble and gold plates at the Darbar
Sahib were under threat due to air pollution in and around the
complex.
The CPCB has engaged
the services of the Guru Nanak Dev University's Department of
Environment to gather data about the traffic movement, encroachments
and industries around the complex to determine the causes of the air
pollution. After collecting the data, the CPCB will plan the course
of action. It proposes to install an air-ambient monitoring system
at Darbar Sahib soon for a clear picture about the quality of air in
the complex.
