Punjabi to be compulsory in schools
WSN Network
CHANDIGARH:
The
Punjab Government has cleared a legislation to make Punjabi
compulsory up to class X in government and private schools. The law
would apply equally to schools all, irrespective of affiliation with
any education board. All official work in government offices and
semi-government institutions would henceforth be carried out in
Punjabi. All official correspondence and work in colleges and
universities of the state would also be in Punjabi. CM Parkash Singh
badal described it as a decision of "historical and cultural
significance".
"Our Gurus
poured out their divine message to the entire mankind in the
language, bestowing upon it the stature of Gurmukhi (the language of
the Gurus),” said Badal.
