Zee TV pulls down hoarding after
Sikhs object to TV ad
WSN Network
MUMBAI:
Immediately after Sikhs protested against a Zee TV hoarding in
Mumbai, the channel reacted and pulled it down saying it never had
any intention to hurt or misrepresent the community.
The Sri Guru
Singh Sabha (SGSS) had raised protests over Zee TV's new soap Ranbir
Rano's hoarding that was put up above a non-vegetarian restaurant
between Bandra station and
SV Road on
Monday. The ad featured the silhouette of a couple and the Golden
Temple at the background.
Darshan Singh
Parmar of SGSS's Chembur wing, said, "The hoarding of Shri Harmandir
Sahib, our holy shrine, put above a restaurant called UP Azad, where
meat and alcohol are distributed is insulting."
Following the
objection, the Zee TV officials pulled down the hoarding on
Wednesday night. Tarun Mehra, Zee TV business head, said, "We
considered their point of view and as we had no intentions to hurt
their sentiments, we immediately brought down the hoarding." The
area where the hoarding was erected is one of the area's prime
advertising spots.
Kulwant Singh,
joint secretary, SGSS, said, "Most of the time, these
misrepresentations are done out of ignorance. We are happy that Zee
responded positively."
